Bhilwara: A 20-year-old man, allegedly belonging to Madhya Pradesh’s Baachhda gang was arrested Monday after a police ASI was seriously injured in a slingshot attack during night patrol in Bhilwara’s Kotdi police station area.Kotdi Station in-charge Mahavir Meena said ASI Kailash Chandra and constable Banwari Lal were patrolling in a police 112 vehicle late Sunday when they reached Mansa village crossroads and found suspected thieves trying to break into a jeweller’s shop.As the police arrived, one youth ran into a village lane. The ASI dropped the constable near the shop and tried to catch him. He managed to nab one suspect, but three others allegedly rushed towards the police vehicle and attacked him with a slingshot. The stone hit the ASI’s ear, leaving him bleeding. He was taken to Kotdi hospital, where he received 13 stitches.Meena reached the spot after being informed. Police examined CCTV footage, set up blockades and registered a case under sections related to obstruction of govt work and a life-threatening attack on police personnel.Police arrested Ashish Baachhda (20) of the Baachhda gang Monday. He is being interrogated. Teams have been formed to trace three accomplices who are missing.Meena said women members of the same gang earlier stole jewellery from women at Charbhuja temple during Holi and hid them in their private parts. Police recovered the jewellery after X-ray examination and extraction by women specialists on a medical board.
