Jaisalmer: Severe cold wave conditions Thursdat tightened their grip along the India-Pakistan border adjoining Jaisalmer, with night temperatures hovering around the freezing point of 0°C and dense fog severely reducing visibility in several stretches. Despite the harsh weather, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel continued round-the-clock surveillance and border security duties. The border area has been experiencing intense cold accompanied by fog and mist, limiting visibility to just a few feet at some locations. Strong desert winds have further worsened conditions, making the night hours particularly challenging for troops deployed along the international border. In Jaisalmer city, the minimum temperature was recorded at 3.3°C. Officials said that while severe cold across several parts of the country has disrupted daily life, the extreme conditions along the border have not affected the morale of BSF personnel. Both male and female soldiers remain deployed and are performing their duties in sub-zero wind chill conditions. A reporter present at the border said temperatures along the India-Pakistan boundary had dropped to around 0°C, with biting winds sweeping across the desert terrain. Dense fog continues to pose challenges to visibility, but officials said surveillance is being maintained using technical resources. Inspector General of BSF Rajasthan Frontier M L Garg said the border area is currently in the grip of severe cold, fog and mist. “Fog has created difficulties in border surveillance, but we have put additional security arrangements in place,” he said. Garg added that personnel are conducting surveillance using night vision devices and other advanced equipment. He said BSF headquarters is providing all necessary support to protect soldiers from the cold.
