Jaipur: Residents of Kausalya Vihar colony near Muhana Mandi in JDA’s Zone-8 and Sanganer Assembly constituency are in fear as Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) moves ahead with plans that they say will block the only road to the colony. Locals allege that land meant for residential use is being diverted for a sewage treatment plant (STP) and commercial projects, for which a boundary wall will be built that will close access to the road.Chandrashekhar Chaudhary, a resident of Kausalya Vihar, said, “Kausalya Vihar is a settled colony. There is a nearly 200-year-old road outside our colony. It was earlier a dirt track, but now JDA is planning to build a wall that will block our access to it.” He added that people bought plots in JDA’s Swarn Vihar housing scheme believing that a 100-ft-wide road would be available. “Commercial shops were carved out on govt land along this road and sold. Now the remaining space is being used for laying STP lines. Govt land is being sold while farmers’ land is being acquired elsewhere, and our road is being walled off. This area is now densely populated,” Chaudhary said.Residents also expressed concern about health and environmental risks due to the sewage treatment plant being constructed between residential colonies. Attempts to contact Zone-8 deputy commissioner Upendra Kumar Sharma for comment were unsuccessful.
