Jaipur: Anticipating a significant rise in tourist footfall on the New Year Day and the subsequent weekend, Jaipur traffic police decided to increase traffic force at tourist spots across the city. A contingent of 300 officials from neighbouring districts will be on city roads to manage traffic on the weekend.Speaking to TOI, Sumeet Meharda, DCP (traffic) of Jaipur Commissionerate, stated that the Jaipur Police is expecting a huge influx of traffic on Jan 1 and the following weekend. He added that they were planning to strengthen traffic management, especially in localities in and around tourist spots across the city.“This year we are observing a new trend. There is a huge influx of domestic tourists from other states of India. Besides the traditional tourist destinations, like the Hawa Mahal, Amber, City Palace or Nahargarh, these tourists are also exploring religious sites like Govind Devji Temple, Moti Doongri Temple, Birla Mandir and Galtaji Dham. We are rearranging our plans accordingly,” stated Meharda. As per the new plan, around 300 police officials will be deployed from neighbouring districts such as Sawai Madhopur, Dausa and Pali. These officials will manage additional vehicle movements in the city from Wednesday. In addition, officials from 10 police stations across the city would also be posted at tourist spots to control traffic.“We are also going to deploy all our 85 traffic volunteers rotationally from Wednesday, along with the 25 traffic interns we have selected from different educational institutions in the city. In addition, we have also deployed mobile vans and created a dynamic one-way plan. In accordance with the one-way plan, we also changed the timings of a few traffic signals to ensure a swift flow of traffic,” added Meharda.
