Alwar/Jaipur: Alwar/Jaipur: Rajasthan’s Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully Thursday announced a statewide public awareness campaign to safeguard the Aravalli range, starting from Alwar district on December 27. During a press conference at the foothills of Kati Ghati Pahadi, Jully criticized both the Centre and the state govt for alleged threats to the Aravallis due to mining activities.Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot accused the central govt of using the Supreme Court-mandated ban on new mining leases in the Aravalli range for “headline management.” Gehlot argued on ‘X’ that the prohibition is merely compliance with a court order and not a new initiative by the Centre, suggesting the govt is misleading the public by promoting the ban as a novel action.Jully, speaking near the hills, vowed that the Congress, alongside the public, would “leave no stone unturned” to protect “Aravalli Mata.” He emphasised the party’s commitment to opposing the destruction of the ancient mountain range and extending the campaign across Rajasthan.Pointing to the hills, Jully highlighted the visible contrast between conserved and mined areas, underscoring the importance of conservation. He directly challenged Alwar MP and Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav, questioning the motives behind risking “Aravalli Mata” and warning of threats to religious and cultural sites in the region.Jully criticized the method of excluding hills from the Aravalli range based on height, claiming that only about 1% of the hills are above 100 meters, potentially opening 90% for mining. He also questioned Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma’s actions since promising to protect the Aravallis, suggesting a lack of concrete steps.
