Cops recover knife used to kill woman

Jaipur: Police Wednesday recovered the knife used to slit the throat of a 52-year-old woman whose body was found dumped in a neighbour’s yard in Shastri Nagar Tuesday.DCP (north) Karan Sharma said the accused, Jitendra Singh, 36, was produced before court a day earlier and sent to three days of police remand. Sharma stated that the weapon was recovered after sustained interrogation, during which Singh disclosed where he concealed it after killing the victim, Babita. “The accused led the police team to the recovery of the sharp weapon used to slit the woman’s throat. The weapon has been seized and sent for forensic examination,” Sharma said.Police said the accused earlier claimed that a scuffle took place over the dispute during which he pushed Babita against a wall, and she fell on the ground bleeding on Sunday. However, on Wednesday, he admitted that he also slit her throat when he realised she did not die. Investigators said they will reconstruct the sequence of events, verify the motive, and complete pending recoveries. Officers are also examining whether the weapon was procured specifically for the crime or picked up during the altercation.Police said Babita was allegedly killed on Sunday evening at the accused’s house in Subash Colony under Shastri Nagar police station limits following a dispute over money. The accused kept the body inside the house for over 30 hours, during which he attempted to clean bloodstains and destroy evidence, before dumping the body in a nearby property in the early hours of Tuesday.Investigators are continuing to analyse CCTV footage from the area, call detail records, and digital evidence, including the victim’s mobile phone, which police said was formatted in an attempt to erase links between the two.
