Allegations of foreign-funding lead to ED raid on Barmer-based NGO

Jaisalmer: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) Monday conducted a raid on the Mahila Mandal Sansthan, an NGO located in the Indira Colony of Barmer city. The action involved scrutiny of documents and questioning of the NGO’s director, Adil Khan.The ED’s investigation focuses on allegations that the organisation has received unauthorised foreign funding amounting to crores of rupees. The raid, which began early in the morning, involved several ED officials arriving in two to three vehicles and lasted several hours.Mahila Mandal Sansthan has been operational for the past 34 years, engaging in various projects primarily aimed at women’s empowerment. The organisation has connected thousands of women across multiple districts in western Rajasthan, serving communities that are among the most disadvantaged.Founded on Jan 25, 1991, the organisation initially formed as a small group of women advocating for fundamental rights in drought-affected villages. Its initiatives include skill development, education and literacy for dropout girls, health and nutrition programmes, and efforts in agriculture, animal husbandry, and disaster relief. In recognition of its contributions, the Sansthan has received several accolades, including the Women Excellence Award from the National Commission for Women in 1997.
