Jaipur: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Thursday opened a bank locker belonging to an arrested general manager and joint commissioner in the department of industries and commerce. They recovered gold worth over Rs 72 lakh as part of an ongoing disproportionate assets investigation.Accused Rajeev Garg was arrested red-handed last year by the ACB’s Pratapgarh team while allegedly accepting a Rs 3 lakh bribe. Following his arrest, the agency launched a probe into his assets and discovered multiple bank accounts, fixed deposits, and suspected benami holdings.ADG (ACB) Smita Srivastava said the locker, located at the Indian Bank branch in Bajaj Nagar, contained 555.35 gram of gold, including biscuits and coins, with an estimated market value of Rs 72,33,240. The bureau also recovered important property documents related to a plot in Bajaj Nagar.“During the course of investigation, the accused was evading the opening of the locker. The ACB team took necessary action to open it, leading to the recovery,” said an official. Investigators said, so far, over Rs 1 crore was traced in various bank accounts of Garg, while another Rs 1.20 crore was found invested in fixed deposits. Officials said the ACB’s investigation is ongoing and that further scrutiny of the seized financial records and property documents is underway to establish the full extent of Garg’s assets.
