Jaipur: Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot Sunday criticised his own party functionaries, over reports that proposals were being made to appoint a particular leader as district president or to authorise a senior leader to make such appointmentsHe said use of influence by any senior leader or the passing of proposals by workers does not align with the high command’s sentiment. “The ‘Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan’ (organisation revival) is a unique experiment by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in which the district president will be chosen by taking the opinion of all leaders and workers of the district,” he said.“Reports have emerged from several places about proposals being passed to make a particular leader the district president or to authorise a senior leader to become district president, which is not appropriate,” he wrote on ‘X’.“The use of influence by any senior leader or passing of proposals by workers is not in accordance with the high command’s sentiment. The objective of this campaign is for observers to select the district president through discussions with everyone, ensuring the participation of all workers,” Gehlot added.Congress is in the process of overhauling the party organisation by appointing new presidents and setting up executive committees at the district, city, mandal, panchayat, and booth levels.
