Jaipur: Dust storms, hailstorms, and rainfall brought a pleasant change in weather across Rajasthan Saturday. Attributing the climatic change to active western disturbances and upper air cyclonic circulation, the Met office issued a rain alert for 12 districts Sunday.
Hailstorms occurred at many places in Sikar and Nagaur districts. An average drop of almost nine degrees Celsius was recorded in the minimum and maximum temperatures. Many places in Jaipur, Kota, Baran, Jhalawar, Ajmer, Sikar and Nagaur experienced thunderstorms and drizzle.
Chittorgarh remained the hottest in the state where a maximum temperature of 43.6 degrees was recorded.
In Jaipur, it all started with dust storms around 4pm, followed by showers. It converted into scattered rainfall by 5pm, with almost every part of Jaipur, especially areas on Sikar Road, Ajmer Road, Tonk Road, and JLN Marg, experiencing showers. People woke up to a pleasant morning when a minimum temperature of 25.2 degrees was recorded. It was followed by a less warm afternoon, with a maximum temperature of 35.8 degrees. The Met office, in its forecast for Jaipur, stated that cloudy conditions are likely to prevail in Jaipur Sunday. Heavy rainfall was witnessed at many areas on the Jaipur-Ajmer national highway starting from Dudu.
Rainfall in the evening and dust storm also troubled commuters especially those returning home from their offices. Traffic at many areas was chaotic due to abrupt weather conditions and waterlogging on the roads.
The met office said that rainfall, dust storms, and hailstorms are likely to continue in Jaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer and Udaipur divisions till May 7. However, the weather in Bikaner and Jodhpur divisions is likely to remain dry.
