Jaipur: The Supreme Court Wednesday granted the Rajasthan govt three more months to complete direct recruitment for vacant posts in the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB). The relief came after the state chief secretary filed an affidavit explaining the status of appointments, following contempt notices issued earlier for failing to meet the April 30 deadline.A bench of Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai and Justice Vinod Chandaran accepted the affidavit and allowed the extension, but exempted the state from filling promotional posts within the same period. The court noted submissions by Additional Advocate General (AAG) Shiv Mangal Sharma that out of 808 sanctioned posts in the RSPCB, nearly 70% had already been filled. Of the remaining 250 vacancies, 175 are reserved for promotion while the rest are for direct recruitment. The state also informed the bench that in the NCR region, Rajasthan accounts for five districts, and all are being managed by four Regional Officers working at full capacity. On May 8, 2025, the Supreme Court had issued a contempt notice to the chief secretary of Rajasthan for failing to meet its earlier direction to fill all vacancies in the Pollution Control Board by April 30. The court had also asked the state to explain measures being taken to curb pollution, particularly during Diwali, when air quality levels typically worsen. With the latest order, the state now has until early Dec 2025 to complete the recruitment process for all direct entry posts in the RSPCB.
