Jaipur: Congress workers Sunday protested Amar Jawan Jyoti Sunday against BCCI’s decision to host the India-Pakistan match in the Asia Cup. During the protest, they burnt effigies symbolising Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and vandalised LED TVs they carried to the protest site.Congress; sports cell state president, Amin Pathan, said any cinema hall or restaurant that broadcast the match would face the party’s opposition, claiming that arranging cricket matches between India and Pakistan was an insult to the sentiments of Indian citizens who were martyred in Pahalgam.“This is not just a game of cricket, but a matter related to the nation’s dignity and self-respect. It is essential to convey the clear message that ‘sports and terrorism cannot coexist’,” Pathan said.Pathan said inquiries should not be directed at Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Ajay Jadeja, Kapil Dev, or Sunil Gavaskar, but at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah. “If they refuse, BCCI does not have the authority to conduct the match,” he said.Pathan said families of Pahalgam terror attack are still in mourning, but the govt proceeded with the match against Pakistan under pressure from ICC chairman Jay Shah, contrary to the nation’s sentiments. tnn
