Constable killed, 4 hurt as police bus hits truck in Dausa

Jaipur: A police driver was killed and four others, including a notorious criminal, were injured after a police bus rammed into a truck in Dausa Wednesday morning.DSP (Dausa) Ravi Prakash Sharma said the accident occurred when Dholpur police were returning with a hardcore criminal, identified as Dharmendra alias Lukka, from Parbatsar in Didwana-Kuchaman. The police bus crashed into a stationary truck on the Jaipur-Agra National Highway around 9.30am. A preliminary probe suggested heavy rain and low visibility may have contributed to the collision, though an investigation into the incident is underway.“A total of five persons were injured in the accident,” Sharma said, adding that two policemen were referred to Jaipur for treatment.SP (Dholpur) Vikas Sangwan said constable Sandeep Kumar died in the mishap. Another policeman sustained a fracture, but his condition is reported to be stable. “The police team was heading back to Dholpur from Didwana-Kuchaman. There was also an escort vehicle accompanying the bus,” Sangwan added.Officials said Lukka suffered a head injury but is in stable condition. Classified as a “hardcore” criminal in police records, Lukka was arrested in Dholpur in 2020 for his involvement in 18 serious offences, including dacoity, murder, and loot.“He is a dangerous criminal. After his arrest in 2020, he managed to flee custody twice. On one occasion, he sprayed chilli powder on policemen and escaped before being recaptured,” an official said.
