Edited 208Jaipur: Farmers in Rajasthan have voiced discontent against a govt mandate requiring the purchase of Nano urea. They have reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, referencing research from Ludhiana Agricultural University that indicates Nano urea may actually reduce crop yields.Despite previous complaints to the Competition Commission and several memorandums submitted in Oct 2022, there was no response or corrective action, Kisan Mahapanchayat of Rajasthan said. “It was confirmed by research from Punjab’s Ludhiana Agricultural University that use of Nano Urea resulted in decreased yield. For this reason, farmers do not wish to purchase bottles of Nano urea. Cooperative societies and licensees are forcing farmers to take Nano urea. Several memorandums were submitted to the state and Union govts regarding this. When no meaningful action was taken by them, a complaint was also sent to the Competition Commission of India on Oct 12, 2022, but surprisingly, no action was taken there either,” said president of Kisan Mahapanchayat, Rampal Jat.“Even after the govt issued a circular on July 21, 2025, to stop this coercion, no meaningful results are forthcoming. As a result, piles of Nano bottles have accumulated in farmers’ homes. Farmers are already facing losses in agriculture, and this expense has worsened their financial situation,” he added.
