Alwar: In Alwar district, as part of International Breastfeeding Week, mothers are being encouraged to donate milk at the Mother Milk Bank and to provide free milk to newborns who cannot receive their mother’s milk. At the Alwar Mother Milk Bank, 18,000 mothers have donated milk. Since 2016, 18,000 mothers have donated approximately 58.32 lakh millilitres of milk over 44,266 instances at the Aanchal Mother Milk Bank. This milk has been provided to 24,000 newborns.The bank also supports mothers in feeding their babies, enabling 34,268 mothers to feed their children 92,320 times. Milk from the Alwar Milk Bank is provided to newborns in government hospitals, private hospitals, and homes.Dr. Amandeep Kaur, in charge of Mother Milk Bank, said that several programmes are being organised at the women’s hospital between Aug 1 and 7 to mark World Breastfeeding Week.Donor Madhu Sain said she was motivated to donate milk while her baby was admitted for jaundice, while Pooja Chaudhary shared that donated milk has helped feed her newborn.ADM city Bina Mahawar inaugurated the week-long event and the “Amrit Ksh,” a dedicated breastfeeding space for mothers.
