Jaipur: In an effort to boost grassroots security and strengthen ties with rural communities, Rajasthan Police has initiated a new drive to recruit volunteers as village guards. The programme, operating under the Rajasthan Police Act 2007 and the Rajasthan Police Amendment Ordinance 2020, calls on residents to actively protect their villages for pride and purpose, rather than for financial gain. The village guard positions are entirely voluntary and do not offer any monetary compensation. Selected individuals will collaborate closely with the police in their respective villages for two years, assisting with daily law enforcement, community safety initiatives, and local intelligence gathering. The initiative aims to leverage local knowledge to effectively address community-specific challenges.Pankaj Chaudhary, superintendent of police and nodal officer for community policing in Rajasthan, said that the programme is intended to make villagers partners in maintaining peace and order. “This is a golden opportunity for people who care deeply about their community and want to be a part of something meaningful,” he said.To be eligible, candidates must have completed at least Class 8, be aged between 40 and 55 years, and be permanent residents of the village where they wish to serve. The specified age range ensures the inclusion of mature individuals who are well-acquainted with their community’s needs and dynamics.Application forms are available at local police stations. Interested individuals must submit their completed forms to the respective police station by Aug 15, 2024.
