Jodhpur: A day after Jodhpur Police Commissioner and DCP (West) assumed charge, tensions flared as residents of the Boranada area staged a protest at the local police station, demanding the removal of SHO Shakeel Ahmed. The residents accused Ahmed and other officers of colluding with criminals and ignoring complaints about illegal activities. They also alleged misbehavior towards complainants.ADCP (West) Nishant Bhardwaj arrived at the scene to address the protesters, promising a thorough investigation into the allegations. “We have assured action against criminals based on the complaints raised by the people,” Bhardwaj said.Virendra Pratap Singh Pal, a protester, alleged SHO Ahmed has been in cahoots with criminals, including land and gravel mafias and drug smugglers, leading to increased crime in the area and claimed he has evidence to support his allegations. He said residents were hesitant to report crimes due to the police’s alleged inaction. The protesters also submitted a complaint to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), urging an investigation into Ahmed’s assets, which they suspect were acquired through illegal means. Bhagwan Singh, another protester, accused a constable of illegally occupying land and hosting liquor parties there.Singh further highlighted a blackmailing case where the police failed to register a complaint. When victims apprehended the accused themselves, a zero number FIR was filed but not transferred to the appropriate station, allowing the accused to be released.Additionally, action against five individuals, including teachers and education department officers, remains pending for allegedly outraging the modesty of a schoolgirl and pressuring her to withdraw her complaint. Although the department suspended the accused, the police have yet to take action.
