Jaipur: The ongoing monsoon has once again exposed the gaps in Jaipur’s civic preparedness. On Monday morning, just a short spell of rain brought the sewage problem in Balaji Ashiyana Society, located in Ward 19 of Jhotwara Assembly constituency, into sharp focus. The locality, home to not just Balaji Ashiyana but also large residential complexes like Vardhaman Residency, has been struggling with a worsening sanitation crisis.According to residents, the issue didn’t start with the rains. The problem of sewage overflow and foul smell has persisted for four to five months. Despite repeated complaints to the municipal corporation, no concrete solution was offered. The situation deteriorated to the point where stepping out of the house became unbearable due to the stench of dirty water flowing from the sewage lines.Amit Wadhwa, President of the Balaji Ashiyana Welfare Society, said, “We’ve raised the issue with the municipal authorities several times, but nothing ever comes of it. Recently, local MLA Diya Kumari visited the Jhotwara area. Following that, we approached her PA with a complaint on Sunday, and he did visit the site this morning.” “The real problem is that earlier fewer families lived here, but now there are over 400-500 residents. However, the sewer system remains the same,” Wadhwa added.Elsewhere in the city, civic lapses continue to surface. Near the Ganga Jamuna petrol pump, road caving that began with the early rains is still being repaired by JDA. Sunday’s rain led to severe waterlogging, disrupting traffic in the area.On New Sanganer Road, parts of the BRTS corridor are being demolished without proper planning.
