Bhilwara: Tensions flared in Rajmahal village of Deoli sub-division, Tonk district, Thursday after a 26-year-old man was run over by a gravel-laden tractor the previous night. Local residents staged a protest demanding justice which turned violent when several women attacked police personnel present at the site.By Thursday evening, talks between the protesters and the administration remained inconclusive. The deceased’s body has been kept on ice at the site as villagers refused to allow conducting a post-mortem until their demands, including financial compensation and a govt job for the family, were met.Tonk SP Vikas Sagwan said legal action would be taken against those who assaulted police officers during the protest. “No one is allowed to take the law into their own hands. Those involved in attacking the police will face strict action,” he said.The incident that triggered the unrest occurred Wednesday evening, when Pappu Gurjar was allegedly run over by the tractor owned by his friend and former colleague, Ishwar Meena. According to police, the two had a dispute over a financial matter. Pappu parked his motorcycle in front of Ishwar’s tractor during the altercation, resulting in the fatal accident.Deoli-Uniara MLA Rajendra Gurjar, along with senior police and administrative officials, visited the protest site and tried to negotiate with the aggrieved villagers, but no solution was reached by the end of the day. A case has been registered against the tractor driver based on the family’s complaint. Police continue to monitor the situation in the area.
