Jaipur/Udaipur: Resident doctors in Rajasthan intensified their protests following the death of a doctor due to electric shock at RNT Medical College, Udaipur. All doctors’ associations in the state have demanded compensation for the deceased doctor and accountability for those responsible for his death. The Jaipur Association of Resident Doctors (JARD), expressing concern over the death of Dr Ravi Sharma due to electric shock from a water cooler, started a symbolic pen-down strike daily for two hours from 8am to 10am Monday. Meanwhile, in-service doctors in govt hospitals wore black armbands to work to demand justice for their deceased colleague. On June 24, doctors under the All Rajasthan In-Service Doctors Association (ARISDA) will submit a memorandum to chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma through all district collectors and sub-division officials in all blocks, an ARISDA office bearer told TOI.He said, “The maintenance in hostels, hospitals is well-known, with crumbling plaster, dangling electrical wires, blocked toilets with continuously overflowing dirty water, and broken windows becoming the fate of every medical hostel. Negligence and apathy led to the loss of a doctor’s life, which is extremely regrettable and tragic.”JARD expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the tragic and entirely preventable death of Dr Ravi Sharma. “This heart-wrenching incident—caused by an electric shock from a water cooler—highlights the severe neglect of basic safety measures and administrative negligence in medical institutions,” a JARD official said.JARD said its symbolic pen-down strike will continue until further notice. It also warned that if the govt does not take quick action, then it will be compelled to intensify its protest and the govt will be responsible for the resulting disruption in health services in the state.
