Jaipur: A man allegedly killed his eight-month-old daughter and then accused five members of his extended family of murdering her, hoping to pass off the crime as an attack by his relatives. Police arrested him in Karauli’s Hindaun City Saturday after investigators found inconsistencies in his account and gathered evidence pointing to his involvement. The accused, Ramdev Jatav, a resident of Khede Ka Pura, had lodged a complaint on Oct 28 accusing his nephews Ramveer, Deendayal and Hiralal, and their wives Pooja and Priyanka, of barging into his house and assaulting the family with sticks. He alleged that Ramveer struck the infant on the head, leaving her critically injured. The child was declared dead on arrival at hospital. However, investigators with New Mandi Hindaun City police found that the infant had allegedly been killed by her father, who smashed her against a stone before blaming his nephews and their wives.Police said the events leading to the killing began with a domestic dispute on the night of Oct 27 when Ramdev and his wife, Reshma, quarrelled. Upset, Reshma left home and headed towards Bajna railway crossing, intending to jump in front of a train. Villagers persuaded her to return. The couple quarrelled again the following morning. When Ramveer intervened and asked them to stop, an argument broke out between him and Ramdev.Police suspect Ramdev, angered by the confrontation, killed his daughter and subsequently filed the complaint to implicate his nephews and their wives.Statements from residents and eyewitnesses, along with other evidence gathered during the investigation, led police to suspect Ramdev’s role. He was arrested around 8:30 pm Saturday.
