Jaipur: After inspections of over 20 govt schools in Udaipur district by the Cockroach Janta Party’s flagged serious gaps, including maggots in a school kitchen, discoloured and foul-smelling drinking water, poor cleanliness, unsafe food grain storage, inadequate seating, and lapses in basic school management, the district education department has issued instructions to all Primary Elementary Education Officers (PEEOs) to carry out immediate physical and managerial improvements.

The directive, issued by the chief block education officer of Nayagaon, calls for strict upkeep of mid-day meal arrangements, safe drinking water, improved sanitation, and better classroom facilities in govt schools. School authorities have also been instructed to restrict outside visitors from entering school premises.“All PEEOs of Block Nayagaon and their subordinate schools are hereby directed to strengthen basic physical and managerial arrangements immediately. This is mandatory to maintain an excellent academic environment and ensure the privacy, safety, and dignity of students in all govt schools operating within Block Nayagaon,” the Monday order said.The order said all heads of institutions must ensure that required arrangements are in place to prevent any damage to the department’s image due to “external interference or any deficiencies”.PEEOs have been directed to conduct regular physical inspections and intensive monitoring of all subordinate schools under their jurisdiction.Specific instructions have been issued on mid-day meal hygiene. The block education officer directed school authorities to keep food grain storage drums containing wheat, rice and pulses completely airtight to prevent infestation by weevils, larvae and other insects. The directive came after the CJP team found maggots in a school kitchen during an inspection Sunday.Authorities have also been instructed to ensure that drinking water tanks are thoroughly cleaned from the inside, with the date of cleaning mandatorily painted on the exterior of the tank.During a visit to a govt school in Zawar Mines, Udaipur, Monday, the CJP team found drinking water that was discoloured and foul-smelling.For classrooms without desks and benches, the department has ordered schools to provide clean floor mats, rugs, or jute mats for students.
