Jodhpur: A first-year postgraduate resident of the Department of Anaesthesia at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jodhpur, allegedly died by suicide after injecting himself with a suspected lethal substance inside the bathroom of the doctors’ rest room Tuesday.According to the police, the resident doctor locked himself inside the bathroom, where he allegedly administered an injection to himself.SHO (Basni) Nitin Dave said that the incident took place in the doctors’ rest room located on the first floor of the Anaesthesia Department around 1 pm Tuesday.“The deceased, identified as Dr Raj Nilesh Yadav (31), a resident doctor at Anaesthesia department in first year of post graduation, was on duty in OT Tuesday. During break at about 1 pm he came to his rest room but did not come out to resume his duty,” said Dave.When his colleagues launched a hunt for him and called on his phone, the phone was heard ringing from the bathroom without any response. The door of the bathroom was broken open, and Yadav was found lying on the floor in an unconscious state. He was rushed to the emergency but was found dead, police said.SHO Dave said that some syringes were found beside him in the bathroom and it is suspected that he injected himself with some lethal drug.“We informed his family members in Alwar and are awaiting the post-mortem in order to ascertain the nature of drug he took,” the SHO said.According to police, the preliminary investigation suggests that Dr Yadav may have died by suicide by injecting himself. However, no suicide note has been recovered from the spot so far.Police have taken possession of Dr Yadav’s mobile phone and are examining the device and other evidence with the assistance of a forensic team. The crime scene is also being examined in detail to establish the sequence of events.The reason behind the suspected suicide has not yet been ascertained. Police said they were examining all possible aspects of the case and would take further legal action based on the findings of the investigation.
