Jaipur: The southwest monsoon turned active once again over Rajasthan Tuesday, triggering widespread rainfall across several districts, swelling rivers, reviving waterfalls and disrupting normal life. The Met office has forecast that the active spell will continue till Aug 2 across the state.The fresh spell claimed one life at Abu Road in Sirohi district late Monday evening. A 66-year-old man, Chinaram, died after his kutcha house collapsed during heavy rain in Chandrawati village, Abu Road. As the house was located away from the main habitation, his body remained buried under the debris throughout the night before being found by villagers the next morning.

Udaipur also witnessed heavy rainfall with the Wakal River in spate, and several roads severely damaged, cutting off connectivity in several villages. In Chittorgarh’s Begun area, Menal waterfall began gushing from a height of nearly 150 feet following heavy rain Tuesday evening.In Bharatpur, a nearly 15-foot portion of the railway station premises caved in due to incessant rainfall.Heavy showers also inundated Sikar’s Fatehpur, where water accumulated in the main market.Rain was reported from Jaipur, Sawai Madhopur, Dholpur, Alwar, Bharatpur, Churu, Chittorgarh, Tonk, Kotputli-Behror and Kota districts as well.Jaipur witnessed mild to moderate showers for the second consecutive day Tuesday afternoon.Abu Road (Sirohi) and Rashmi (Chittorgarh) recorded rainfall of 70 mm each—highest in the state. It was followed by Sawai Madhopur, Mount Abu, Gangrar and Reodar with 50 mm each. Kolayat Magra in Bikaner also recorded 50 mm, while Shergarh in Jodhpur received 30 mm.Jaipur Meteorological Centre Director Radheshyam Sharma said rainfall activity is expected to increase from Wednesday in Jaipur, Bharatpur, Kota, Ajmer, Udaipur and Bikaner divisions, with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely at isolated places in eastern and southeastern Rajasthan.
