Jaipur: A private power company employee was electrocuted while installing a new electricity line in Dausa district Sunday. Hours later, his elder brother died of a suspected cardiac arrest after being informed of the accident. The two brothers were cremated together at their native village in Alwar Monday.According to police, the incident occurred during the installation of a new 11kV power line from the Sanwasa Grid Sub Station (GSS) in Lalsot.Jitendra Chauhan alias Jeetu (28), a resident of Tasai village in Kathumar area of Alwar district, was stringing wires on the newly laid line when he was electrocuted. He was rushed to the nearby Community Health Centre(CHC), where doctors declared him brought dead.Police said the newly installed line allegedly came into contact with an old overhead power line that was still live. “Current passed into the new line, electrocuting Jitendra. He died on the spot,” a police officer from Jhapda police station said.Police shifted the body to the mortuary at Lalsot district hospital. After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the relatives. A probe has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances leading to the accident.The tragedy deepened when news of Jitendra’s death reached his family in Tasai village. His elder brother, Prakash Chauhan(32), suffered a severe cardiac arrest and was rushed to Kathumar CHC, where doctors declared him dead, police said.Police said it was claimed that the electricity dept had shut down the line before work on the line began. A case has been registered to determine the exact cause of the electrocution and whether mandatory safety protocols were followed.
