Jaipur: The city traffic police and the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) have drawn up a traffic management plan to ease congestion on Sikar Road during the construction of Jaipur Metro Phase 2. The blueprint aims to keep traffic moving on one of the city’s busiest corridors as work progresses between Ambabari and Todi Mod.As part of the plan, JDA will merge the slip lane with the National Highway at the Road No. 14 junction and develop a designated bus bay heading towards Sikar and Chomu. The move is intended to shift passenger pick-up and drop-off activity away from the main carriageway.“The facility will allow through traffic on the main carriageway to move without obstruction. During the construction period, the width of both carriageways on Sikar Road is likely to reduce at several stretches. If this plan proves successful, it may be extended to other parts of Sikar Road and other city roads as well,” a JDA official said.The Rajasthan Metro Railway Corporation (RMRC) has already started Phase 2 construction on the Sanganer side of the corridor. Work on the Ambabari-Todi Mod stretch of Sikar Road is expected to begin in Sept. The section will have 10 metro stations.Traffic police also plan to restrict the movement of heavy vehicles between Todi Mod and Crossing No. 14. Heavy vehicles from the Vishwakarma Industrial Area will be diverted via the Badharna culvert to access the expressway.“We have also proposed widening the road from Todi Mod to the Daulatpura Expressway via Bhairu Khezda and Sevapura. JDA has also been asked to construct medians and service lanes on this stretch. This will help divert heavy vehicles through this route,” a traffic police officer said.The measures aim to prevent traffic snarls during metro construction, ensure smoother traffic flow, and create alternative routes for industrial traffic.
