Jaipur: The health department Monday completed a five-day statewide screening campaign, identifying 37,558 high-risk pregnancies and reviewing the quality of antenatal care being provided to women across the state. The move comes following the death of 19 women due to post-C-section complications.During the drive, high-risk pregnancies were identified based on pre-existing health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid disorders, kidney or heart disease, conditions such as lupus or multiple sclerosis, certain sexually transmitted infections (STIs), or conditions like HIV or a history of preeclampsia, miscarriages or premature labour.Launched on July 15, the intensive inspection drive examined records of 3,56,783 pregnant women. Officials also reviewed records of 37,558 women categorised as high risk, checking maternal and child health services, antenatal check-ups, record maintenance, follow-up systems and service quality at the field level.Principal Secretary (health and medical education) Gayatri Rathore said each concerned Auxiliary Nurse Midwife was directed to visit every identified high-risk pregnant woman every third day for close monitoring. She said 14,836 pregnant women were contacted for real-time verification and interviews to assess whether maternal health services were reaching beneficiaries effectively. Any gaps found during the campaign will be addressed immediately, she said.The department inspected 8,414 health institutions during the drive. Facilities were assessed on availability of medicines, testing services, functional equipment, cleanliness and adherence to service standards. Officials also visited and monitored 7,731 Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition sessions. Rathore said corrective action is being taken by field officers wherever shortcomings were recorded in inspections.On July 18, as many as 3,062 Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan sessions were monitored simultaneously across the state. Specialist services were provided to 1,05,629 pregnant women, including 31,919 in the first trimester, 36,706 in the second trimester and 37,004 in the third trimester.Blood tests were conducted for 98,247 pregnant women during these sessions. For anaemia management, 12,173 women were administered Iron Sucrose, while 9,284 received Ferric Carboxymaltose injections. The department also provided 16,634 MAA (mukhyamantri Ayushman Arogya) vouchers for free sonography services.Officials said the campaign focused on timely antenatal care, early detection of complications, regular tracking of high-risk pregnancies and faster referral of women requiring specialist intervention.The drive reinforced accountability among frontline workers and health institutions amid heightened concern over maternal safety. District teams have been instructed to sustain monitoring beyond the campaign period and submit compliance reports on corrective measures taken at facilities and field-level service delivery points across all blocks.
