Ajmer: Private schools across Ajmer remained closed Wednesday as their management staged a protest demanding the release of pending reimbursements under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. They also submitted a memorandum to the district collector, addressed to the chief minister, warning of a larger agitation if their demands are not met.Under the banner of the Rajasthan Niji Shikshan Sangharsh Samiti, the protesters gathered at the collectorate and sought immediate clearance of RTE dues, under which private schools provide free education to eligible students and are reimbursed by the state govt.Samiti president Kailash Sharma said the organisation also demanded an end to what it termed unnecessary fees charged by the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education for issuing transfer certificates. It further urged authorities to address issues related to CBSE-affiliated schools and ensure timely release of RTE payments. The school managements warned that they would launch a statewide agitation, shut down schools and stop admitting students under the RTE quota if their demands continue to be ignored.Sources said around 150 private schools, including several prominent institutions in Ajmer, remained shut in support of the protest. Students were given a holiday and teaching staff also remained off duty.
