Jaipur: Overflowing sewers, clogged drains, uncollected garbage and potholed roads continue to plague residents of Kishanpole in Jaipur’s Walled City, prompting local representatives to once again approach the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) with demands for immediate action.Kishanpole MLA Amin Kagzi, along with former councillors and residents, recently met JMC commissioner Om Kasera and submitted a memorandum alleging that sanitation and civic infrastructure in the area have deteriorated due to poor maintenance and irregular cleaning.The delegation said sewer lines overflow almost daily as they are not desilted on schedule. Blocked drains and nullahs are causing sewage to spill onto roads and into residential lanes, leading to severe waterlogging during the monsoon. Residents also alleged that garbage collection remains irregular in several wards, with waste left unattended for days, increasing mosquito breeding and the risk of disease.The memorandum further alleged that hopper vehicles meant for door-to-door garbage collection are operating inconsistently, while some sanitation workers have been diverted to private hotels and commercial establishments instead of municipal duties.Apart from sanitation, the delegation highlighted delays in issuing land lease deeds, claiming files prepared during the previous govt remain pending because land transfer records have not been updated. They also sought urgent repairs to damaged roads, saying rainwater-filled potholes have caused several accidents.The group demanded a high-level probe into the Rs 270-crore sewerage project executed by EMS Ltd, alleging sewer lines were laid without proper planning.Former councillor Mohammad Zakariya said, “The biggest issue is poor maintenance of the drainage system.” The drains are never cleaned properly.” He alleged that the contractor has deployed only three workers to maintain the drainage network.Resident Irfan Ahmed said sewage continues to flow onto streets, posing a serious health risk. Residents said they had raised the same concerns with the civic body nearly two months ago, but little has changed and no timeline for corrective action has been provided.
