JAISALMER: In a major breakthrough in a Pakistan-linked espionage case, the Rajasthan Police’s CID (Intelligence) on Wednesday arrested an alleged funding agent of Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI, from Aurangabad, Maharashtra. The arrest has exposed a key financial network used to channel money to individuals involved in anti-national espionage activities.Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence), Prafull Kumar, said the arrest is linked to a case registered under the Official Secrets Act, 1923, in January 2026. Earlier, Jhabra Ram, a resident of Jaisalmer, and Sumit Kumar, an MTS employee posted at the Indian Air Force Station in Dibrugarh, Assam, were arrested for allegedly passing confidential information related to the Indian Armed Forces to ISI handlers.During the investigation, CID (Intelligence) found that both accused had received payments from the ISI through Rafiq Chand Sheikh (41), son of Chand Miyan Sheikh, a resident of Harsul in Aurangabad district, Maharashtra.Further interrogation revealed that Rafiq Chand Sheikh had been in contact with an ISI handler for nearly four years through social media. Acting on the handler’s instructions, he opened multiple bank accounts in his own name and in the names of other individuals to transfer funds to people involved in espionage activities. After gathering sufficient evidence establishing that Rafiq Chand Sheikh was working as a funding agent for the ISI, Rajasthan CID (Intelligence) arrested him on June 30, 2026.According to CID (Intelligence), the investigation is ongoing, and efforts are underway to identify other individuals and financial transactions linked to the ISI’s funding network. Rajasthan Police said it remains committed to taking strict action against all elements involved in activities that threaten the nation’s security.
