Jaisalmer: Three govt employees in Barmer district have been accused of manipulating official records and insurance documents to claim insurance money after the death of their cancer-stricken mother, officials said. The accused — Hanuman Singh, Mansukh and Ramnarayan — allegedly changed the birth year of their mother, late Anadi Devi, a former sarpanch of Gram Panchayat Koliyana, from 1955 to 1971 in official records.Investigators said the alteration made Anadi Devi appear younger and eligible for life insurance despite being a pensioner, enabling insurance claims worth lakhs of rupees.Officials said the revised records created glaring inconsistencies. While voter lists showed Anadi Devi as 68 years old in 2020 and 73 in 2025, the altered records showed her age as 54 in 2025. The change also implied that she was only three years old when her eldest daughter, Indra Devi, now 51, was born.Investigators found that Anadi Devi had been battling cancer for two years and was undergoing treatment at AIIMS Jodhpur. A life insurance policy worth Rs 40 lakh was allegedly purchased just 13 days before her death.Officials also alleged that fake fitness certificates were used to insure two trucks worth around Rs 70 lakh.To claim accident insurance, her death was allegedly projected as a fall from a rooftop. However, the post-mortem report attributed the death to aspiration pneumonia with shock, indicating complications arising from prolonged illness. Authorities have launched a detailed probe into the alleged fraud.
