Jaisalmer: High drama unfolded in Barmer Tuesday when Sheo MLA Ravindrasingh Bhati poured petrol over himself and attempted self-immolation during a protest march linked to the ongoing agitation over employment and workers’ rights at the Giral Lignite Mines in Sheo assembly constituency. The incident occurred after police stopped Bhati and hundreds of protesters from proceeding towards the Collectorate during a march organised in support of local workers.Bhati, an independent MLA, had led a convoy of nearly 500 vehicles from Giral village towards the Collectorate after warning a day earlier that he would intensify the agitation if workers’ demands were not accepted. tnn
