Kota: Three of the four women undergoing treatment after a suspected post C-section infection at Kota’s government New Medical College Hospital remained in critical condition Friday, even as the cause of the infection that claimed two lives is yet to be established.Hospital authorities said three women were put on dialysis on Friday afternoon, while another patient showed signs of recovery.Additional principal of New Medical College Hospital Kota, Dr R P Meena, said a high-level medical team from Jaipur was assisting local doctors in the treatment of the affected women. The investigation into the cause of the infection is underway, but the exact reason has not yet been ascertained, Meena said. The four women undergoing treatment were identified as Dhannu, Sushila, Ragani and Chandrakala. Doctors said Dhannu remained the most critical among them, while Chandrakala showed improvement with satisfactory urine output. The other three women underwent dialysis during the day.Officials added that Dhannu’s newborn baby was also on oxygen support, while the other four newborns remained stable in the neonatal intensive care unit. The incident came to light after the condition of six women deteriorated within hours of undergoing C-section at the hospital Monday evening. Two women, Payal, 26, from Chittorgarh and 19-year-old Jyoti Nayak from Kota, died Tuesday and Thursday respectively.Family members of the deceased have alleged negligence in treatment. Jyoti’s husband Ravi told TOI that despite informing hospital staff about her worsening condition early Tuesday morning, timely attention was not provided.Dr B L Patidar and Dr Neha reportedly performed the C section, and the victim’s family later lodged a complaint against the doctors for negligenceHowever, Dr Meena denied the allegation and said doctors acted immediately after the women’s condition turned critical and shifted them to the nephrology ward.Meanwhile, another woman who reportedly underwent a C-section at the hospital the same evening was shifted by her family to a private hospital after her condition deteriorated on Friday. Her family could not be contacted for comment. The district administration has constituted inquiry committees into the incident, though officials have so far not shared details on the progress of the investigation or possible action in the case.
