Rajasthan sees Covid spike; 8 test positive in 24 hours, 1 death reported

JAIPUR: “We had one case of Covid. The deceased from Vaishali Nagar was suffering from tuberculous meningitis for four months. The initial diagnosis was abdominal pain, which was resolved. He then developed rapidly progressive breathlessness for 3-4 days,” Dr Sheetu Singh, director of lung centre at the Rajasthan Hospital, told TOI.Since he had breathlessness, the doctors suspected him of having Covid and did a CT scan. “The CT report showed severe viral pneumonia and the Covid-19 RT-PCR was positive. Despite being promptly treated in a ventilator, he died within two days of admission. It may have been severe due to his low body immunity. The most susceptible persons are immunosuppressed patients with heart diseases, lung diseases, obesity, and stroke,” said Dr Singh.Meanwhile, Covid cases are rising in the state. Eight persons have tested positive for it in over the last 24 hours – three in AIIMS Jodhpur; one each in SN Medical College, Jodhpur; RNT, Udaipur; Rajasthan Hospital, B Lal, and EHCC, all in Jaipur. A 26-year-old woman from Didwana, a 40-day-old baby from another state, a 55-year-old woman from Jodhpur, a 55-year-old man from Jodhpur, a 29-year-old woman from Udaipur, a 26-year-old man from Jaipur, a 35-year-old man from Jaipur, and a 36-year-old woman from Jaipur are those who tested positive for the virus.
