Jaipur: In an act of honesty, a constable posted at Shyam Nagar police station returned a bag containing jewellery worth around Rs 30 lakh and cash to its rightful owner in Jaipur. According to the officials, constable Mukhram was on Chetak patrol duty Monday and found an unattended bag in the Katewa Nagar area.On checking the bag he found it contained valuable items, including two gold chains, two bracelets, a gold necklace, five gold rings, OnePlus mobile phone and Rs 10,600 in cash.Mukhram immediately deposited the recovered bag in the police station’s evidence storage room (malkhana) as per procedure. “Shortly afterwards, someone called on the mobile phone that was found inside the bag. The caller was informed about the recovery and asked to come to the police station,” said a police officer of Shyam Nagar police station.Later, the owner of the bag, identified as Rita Mishra of Katewa Nagar, arrived at Shyam Nagar police station. She informed the police that she was on her way to Bikaner with her children to attend a wedding. While helping her children board an auto-rickshaw, the bag accidentally fell and was left behind.After proper verification and matching of the items, the police handed over the bag along with all its contents to her. Mishra expressed relief and gratitude to the police for their prompt action and honesty. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Jaipur South) Rajrishi Raj Singh said that Mukhram’s conduct reflects integrity and commitment to duty. His role in safely returning the valuables needs appreciation.
