JAIPUR: Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasra Monday attacked the BJP-led state govt for moving high court seeking postponement of urban local body and panchayati raj elections, calling the move “illogical” and an attempt to evade accountability.Dotasra said the high court set an April 15 deadline to hold the elections, which the govt failed to meet. He alleged the petition, which cites eight grounds for delay, was a pretext to defer polls and avoid facing voters.Accusing the govt of pursuing “undemocratic policies,” he said its actions were obstructing Rajasthan’s development and alleged the state failed in its constitutional duty.Dotasra said a shortage of employees was not a valid justification and asked whether new recruitments were planned and whether arrangements for “1-2 lakh” personnel could be made in the coming months. He also dismissed concerns about the academic session, saying elections in India are routinely held during extreme weather and during school terms. He alleged the OBC Commission report and reservation issues were being used as excuses to delay the process, and said postponing elections without valid grounds undermines constitutional principles. He added that under the Congress govt, elections were conducted even during the COVID-19 pandemic.
