Udaipur: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Sunday arrested Mandwa police station station house officer Nirmal Kumar Khatri and constable Bhalaram while accepting a bribe of Rs 8 lakh in Udaipur. The bribe was allegedly demanded in exchange for not naming four persons as accused in an NDPS Act case.According to officials, the SHO and the constable had demanded Rs 5 lakh each from four individuals, taking the total demand to Rs 20 lakh. Acting on a complaint, an ACB team laid a trap and caught both the accused red-handed inside the police station while accepting part of the bribe.The operation was carried out under the supervision of ACB DIG Rameshwar Singh by Udaipur ACB station officer Sonu Shekhawat.ACB director general Govind Gupta said a complaint was received alleging that a bribe was being demanded for not implicating certain persons in a case registered at Mandwa police station. “The SHO demanded Rs 5 lakh each from four people, totalling Rs 20 lakh,” he said.Officials said the complainant was allegedly being threatened with being named as an accused if the money was not paid. Following verification, the ACB team conducted the trap and arrested the SHO and constable while accepting Rs 8 lakh.A case has been registered against both under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further investigation is underway.
