70 condemned city buses get 6-month extension in Jaipur

Jaipur: Nearly 90 city buses in Jaipur that have already completed their service life are still operating on city roads, highlighting the shortage of public transport vehicles. On Friday, 70 of these buses were granted a six-month extension to continue running. The buses are operated by Jaipur City Transport Services Limited (JCTSL). Most belong to the Todi depot, where around 100 buses are currently in operation. Of these, 30 buses were declared condemned in Sept 2025 and were given a six-month extension at that time. Ten air-conditioned buses were completely condemned, and their operations were stopped. Another 70 buses from the same depot were declared condemned in March 2026. Their operations were extended on Friday for another six months, allowing them to run until Sept 11, 2026. With this decision, a significant number of buses running in Jaipur have technically exceeded their service life. However, due to delays in the arrival of new buses, thousands of commuters continue to rely on them for daily travel across the city. In contrast, about 100 buses operating from the Bagharana depot are still considered fit for service and have not been declared condemned. According to JCTSL officials, the contract period for the 100 buses operating from the Todi depot ended on March 12, 2026. Considering public convenience and the lack of replacement vehicles, the contract has now been extended until Sept 11, 2026. Meanwhile, commuters and bus staff are awaiting the induction of new buses to strengthen the city’s public transport fleet and improve services for daily passengers.
