Jaipur: A single bench of Rajasthan High Court Thursday granted bail to Monu Manesar, who has been in jail for nearly 2-and-a-half years in the infamous Junaid-Nasir double murder case. Manesar, whose real name is Mohit Yadav, is expected to be released from Sewar jail in Bharatpur within the next few days. His defence argued that the prolonged judicial custody without significant progress in the trial warranted his release. It was highlighted that none of the 74 prosecution witnesses listed in the chargesheet had been examined. The defence also noted that another co-accused, Anil Kumar, was granted bail by the Supreme Court on Jan 28.
The case gained national attention after charred bodies of Junaid and Nasir, residents of Bharatpur district, were discovered on Feb 16, 2023, inside a Bolero vehicle in Haryana. Manesar faces a number of other charges, including allegations of firing in Pataudi and posting inflammatory content on social media in the lead-up to the Nuh violence. He secured bail in those cases. tnn
