Jaipur: A fire broke out in a sixth-floor flat of an apartment building in the Shyam Nagar area here on Tuesday morning, prompting a rescue operation and evacuation of residents, police said.The incident occurred around 6.30 am in Shyam Nagar, where around 200 people reside in the 10-storey building, they said.According to police, the fire broke out in a flat belonging to a man identified as Kamal. He and his family managed to escape after noticing flames rising from the flat.The fire quickly spread, filling the building with thick smoke and triggering panic among residents, who rushed out of their flats.Police personnel from Shyam Nagar police station reached the spot and, with the help of residential guards, evacuated families from the building.Two fire brigade vehicles were pressed into service, and the blaze was brought under control after about half an hour of effort, police said.Two families who reached the terrace and got stranded during the fire were rescued with the help of a hydraulic fire brigade.During the rescue operation, police personnel broke glass panes on the fifth floor to allow smoke to escape and evacuate trapped residents.The flat and household belongings were completely gutted in the fire, causing losses worth lakhs of rupees, police said.
