Jaipur: Five businessmen from Sanganer area, friends since school and now in their forties, were admitted to a private hospital with serious injuries after a road accident during their Friday outing for dinner in Kharbas area.A speeding car crashed into roadside food carts and the dislodged material and metal of the carts struck them as they were waiting outside a hotel. Three of them were admitted to ICU, while two others were admitted for treatment of fractures and head injuries.“Like they do every month, they had gone for dinner on Friday night. They got off the car and as there was a waiting queue at the hotel, they stood outside. Suddenly, a car came at high speed and rammed into roadside food carts. The pieces of these food carts hit all these five friends. All have sustained injuries and undergoing treatment in hospital,” said Ruchika, wife of Ashish Gupta, who has suffered serious injuries.Two of the friends are currently admitted to the orthopaedic department with fractures in their legs; two are admitted to the neurosurgery department, with one of them having a fracture in the forehead that required surgery, while the other with minor injuries that require doctor’s observation. One of them suffered a liver injury that caused internal bleeding and was treated with medicines, with surgery not required.Hospital officials identified the patients as Pankaj Khandelwal, admitted to High Dependency Unit, Ravi Kumar Jain, admitted to Neuro ICU, Ashish Gupta, admitted to general ward, Ankit Kayal, admitted to general ward, and Chamatkar Jain, admitted to medical ICU with liver injury.Dr DS Malik, medical superintendent of EHCC hospital, said, “The condition of all five injured is currently stable. They are under supervision of specialist doctors and the hospital management is providing every necessary medical facility.”In Kharbas area late Friday night, people were having hot soup and daal-baati, burgers, and Chinese food at streetside carts when an Audi car crashed into them, injuring at least 16 persons.Three labourers who were eating dal-baati suffered serious injuries and were admitted to SMS Hospital. “They came to Jaipur from Malpura, Tonk, for work. After the day’s work, they stopped to eat dal-baati,” said Dr BL Yadav, incharge of Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics of SMS Hospital.The first food cart that the car hit belonged to a 22-year-old man, Mridul, who was selling soup. He belonged to Chittor and was hospitalised at Jaipuria Hospital’s ICU. His father told TOI that Mridul suffered fractures in his ribs and leg. “The doctors have advised surgery. Mridul was doing his regular work when the car hit. Within seconds, the food carts were turned into pieces. My son has survived miraculously,” said Vinod Lohar, father of Mridul.Next to Mridul’s cart was a cart selling dal-baati. The helper at the cart died. At SMS Hospital, the condition of one of the injured is critical.
