Jaipur: More than 94 lakh financially capable residents have voluntarily surrendered their food security benefits under Rajasthan’s ‘Give Up Campaign’, enabling the state to include over one crore eligible beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), said food and civil supplies minister Sumit Godara Friday.Launched on Nov 1, 2024, the campaign has brought 1,00,77,182 needy people under the food security net, while 94,99,250 beneficiaries voluntarily opted out of the scheme.“This achievement stands not only as an administrative success but also as an example of social responsibility and compassionate governance,” Godara said at a press conference.He said the campaign helped clean up beneficiary lists under the NFSA, under which Rajasthan has a fixed quota of about 4.46 crore beneficiaries based on its population. The state currently has 4,36,54,091 beneficiaries, leaving little scope to include deserving families unless ineligible names are removed.Targeting the previous Congress govt, Godara alleged it had failed to keep the portal operational for adding or deleting beneficiaries. “We believe this to be one of the greatest achievements in the realm of social security in the state’s history,” he said.Godara said the objective was to ensure subsidised foodgrain reaches genuinely needy families through a transparent system by removing ineligible and financially capable beneficiaries from the scheme.
