Jaipur: Three children of Gadhaiich village in Dholpur district drowned in Parvati river Sunday, leaving families shattered after a rescue attempt by a 14-year-old boy saved others but not his younger sister.SHO (Mania) Neeraj Sharma identified the deceased as Sonam (11), Nishu (13) and Bhoora (12), students of the local govt school. Sonam studied in Class 5, while the other two were in Class 6.According to police, eight children went to bathe in the river around noon on a school holiday. While they were playing in the water about 100 metre from the village, they drifted towards a deeper stretch near a small island and began to drown.Sharma said Sonam’s brother Saurabh (14), who was grazing buffaloes nearby, noticed the children struggling and rushed to help. He jumped into the river and managed to pull out five children by holding onto them as they clung to each other. However, three children, including his sister, slipped into a deep pit in the river and could not be rescued. “The children were holding each other’s hands while drowning. One of them grabbed Saurabh’s hand, which helped him pull out five, but the others sank into deeper water,” an officer said.Saurabh immediately alerted villagers, who rushed to the spot. Police teams also reached soon after and launched a search operation. With the help of locals, the bodies of two girls and one boy were pulled out after about an hour and taken to hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
