Jaipur: A year after nine-year-old Amaira died after falling from the fourth floor of Neerja Modi School during school hours, her parents said Saturday they are still waiting for accountability, despite investigations and regulatory action that flagged safety lapses at the school.Sanyukta Abhibhavak Sangh, a parents’ body, also questioned the delay in action, citing a police charge sheet and probes by CBSE and Rajasthan education department, both of which pointed to deficiencies.According to the family, Amaira had approached her class teacher, Punita Sharma, several times on the day of the incident, complaining of harassment by classmates. Instead of helping her, the teacher allegedly scolded and threatened her. CCTV footage reportedly shows Amaira leaving the classroom in distress.Police filed a chargesheet on July 1, 2026, naming the teacher, principal Indu Dubey, chairperson Saurabh Modi and another person as accused. A court rejected the family’s plea for addition of more serious charges in September.CBSE withdrew the school’s affiliation on Dec 30, 2025, citing safety deficiencies, but later restored it up to Class X while barring Classes XI and XII for two years. The school subsequently secured interim relief from Rajasthan High Court. The association said later CBSE inspections also flagged gaps in student safety, counselling facilities and teachers’ qualifications. It questioned the pending decision on recognition for Classes I to VIII and Dubey’s continuation as principal.Amaira’s parents, Vijay Meena and Shivani Dev, said their fight was not only for their daughter but also to protect other children.“Our daughter will never return, but we do not want any other parent to go through this pain,” they said, demanding accountability. The association sought action against the school management and officials concerned, a decision on recognition, and a review of safety arrangements in private schools across Rajasthan.
