Local residents gather in Baloti village, Karauli district, after three members of a family died in an alleged suicide

Jaipur: Three members of a family died and one was reported in critical condition after they allegedly consuming a toxic substance in Baloti village of Karauli district Monday. The deceased were identified as 45-year-old Ramdayal Bairwa, his 40-year-old wife Rajbai, and their 23-year-old son Laxminarayan. The couple’s 25-year-old son, Vijayraj Bairwa, is receiving treatment in a hospital in Jaipur.Dy SP Meena Meena said that the family was experiencing prolonged mental stress, which may be linked to the younger son’s ongoing illness. “The investigation is at a preliminary stage. While initial findings suggest severe mental stress was present, we will not speculate further at this time,” Meena said. The family was discovered unconscious by neighbours, who rushed them to Sapotra hospital before they were referred to hospitals in Gangapur City and then to Jaipur for specialised care. Rajbai and Laxminarayan died en route to Jaipur, and Ramdayal passed away shortly before arrival, police said.Karauli SP Lokesh Sonwal said the family previously sought treatment from a local occultist for Vijayraj’s illness and other hardships. Additionally, police recovered a purported suicide note stating that the family was ending their lives voluntarily and that no one else was responsible. “The authenticity of the note is being verified as part of the investigation,” Sonwal added.Police are exploring all angles and are in the process of interviewing family relatives and friends to gather more insights into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
