Jaipur: The pipeline of solar and wind power projects awaiting implementation in Rajasthan has increased to 50,000MW, bringing it closer to the 115,000MW target set by the state govt to be achieved by 2030.Currently, 38,000MW of renewable energy projects are operational in the state. However, the implementation of this large number of projects hinges on land availability, transmission infrastructure, and regulatory decisions.Rajasthan holds the key to the Centre’s target of achieving 500GW by 2030 to meet the country’s global commitments for climate mitigation. Ajitabh Sharma, principal secretary (energy), said, “We have over four more years to reach the target of 115 GW. With 38 GW already grounded and the robust pipeline of projects, it should be easy for us to take out the target.”However, he said that the focus now is on building parallel infrastructure to evacuate and manage the renewable energy supply and distribution. “To enhance the capacity infrastructure, we need massive investments,” added Sharma.Recently, the Rajasthan Vidyut Transmission Corporation (RVPNL) approved a plan to set up 15 projects of different capacities, which would require investments of Rs 26,000 crore. A new land allotment policy was introduced to facilitate the grounding of large-scale solar projects. The Union govt is also counting on the state. Nationally and in Rajasthan, the installed renewable projects have surpassed 50% of the fossil fuel-based power plants. But the aim is to achieve 50% power supply from renewable sources. As of now, Rajasthan gets 18% of its power from renewable energy sources. Solar and wind projects produce 20-22% of power against the installed capacity, whereas in coal, the percentage is around 80%.The state govt is targeting use of solar power in every segment of consumption. Under Surya Ghar Mufti Yojna, the state will set up community solar projects to provide free power up to 150 units. Govt buildings are getting solarised through a 1000 MW tender. The PM Kusum scheme is being used to provide power to farmers.
