Jaipur: Supreme Court Thursday granted bail to Devesh Raika, son of former RPSC member Ramuram Raika, in connection with the 2021 sub-inspector recruitment paper leak case. This development comes shortly after his sister, Shobha Raika, was granted bail by the apex court on June 2.The siblings, who had secured impressive ranks in the 2021 SI recruitment exam – Shobha at 5th and Devesh at 40th – were arrested by the Special Operations Group (SOG) from Rajasthan Police Academy (RPA) on Sept 1, 2024, where they were undergoing training. The duo is accused of having access to the recruitment exam’s question paper beforehand through their father, who is a former member of the recruiting agency Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC). During the bail hearing, defense counsel Vedant Sharma argued that Devesh had been in custody since Aug 31, 2024, and with the chargesheet filed but charges yet to be framed in the court, an early trial seemed unlikely due to the volume of documents and witnesses involved. Sharma cited a similar bail granted to another accused, Anikta Godara, on May 13.The bench comprising Justices Sanjay Karol and Satish Chandra Sharma granted bail with conditions, including non-interference with witnesses and compliance with trial court stipulations.
