Jaipur: The orthopaedics department at RUHS hospital achieved a major medical milestone by successfully performing its first total knee replacement surgery on a 70-year-old patient, Kanhaiya Lal. The hospital admitted another patient Saturday for the same procedure, signalling the beginning of a new era in advanced surgical care at the government-run facility.This development marks RUHS hospitals entry into the league of government medical institutions capable of conducting complex surgeries. It also aligns with the state govt’s push to upgrade RUHS and reduce patient pressure on SMS hospital. The surgery was performed by a team of specialists, including Dr Devkant, Dr Heeralal Dhawan, and Dr Rakesh Dhukia. Highlighting the hospital’s improved infrastructure, Dr Anil Gupta, head of orthopaedics department, said, “We have one of the best modular operation theatres at RUHS, which are now fully operational. We successfully performed our first total knee replacement and will continue to expand these services.” The medical team performed a knee replacement on patient’s right knee, with the left knee scheduled for surgery soon. tnn
