Recruitment fraud in edu dept: Teachers, PTIs among 31 booked

Jaipur: Special operations group (SOG) of Rajasthan Police Wednesday registered FIRs against 31 employees of the education department for allegedly securing govt jobs using fraudulent means, including use of dummy candidates and forged educational documents, over the past five years. The accused include six lab assistants, 11 physical training instructors (PTIs), seven junior assistants, six teachers, and one librarian, all currently posted in various districts.ADG (SOG) VK Singh said two separate FIRs were filed after an extensive investigation. “The first FIR names 23 accused, while the second lists eight. Many submitted fake certificates, while others used impersonators during recruitment exams. In several cases, there were clear mismatches in photographs and signatures,” he said. The fraud came to light after the education department conducted an internal verification drive, examining the documents and credentials submitted by various recruits. Officials say the findings raised troubling questions about the systemic failure to detect discrepancies, especially in cases where candidates were recruited as far back as 2018.The probe gained momentum after a 2024 directive from the Rajasthan govt, prompted by concerns over irregularities in recruitment processes across multiple departments. Acting on the directive, the Department of Personnel (DoP), in a letter dated June 6, 2024, instructed all departments to form internal verification committees. These committees were tasked with verifying whether the individual who appeared for the exam was the same person currently holding the job.
