Jaipur: Kartik Jain and Priyanshi Saini emerged men’s and women’s singles champions respectively as the RD Baheti Memorial Jaipur District Open Badminton Championship concluded at the SMS Stadium Indoor Badminton Hall here on Monday.In the men’s singles summit clash, Kartik did not have to stretch much and brushed aside the challenge of Bhanu Pratap with a straight-game 21-10, 21-15 verdict to reign supreme.The women’s singles final was a hard-fought battle in which Priyanshi edged past Utsava Palet 21-3, 15-21, 24-22 to bag her maiden crown at the senior level.In the U-19 girls’ singles final, Garima Yadav overcame Aaradhya Dhingra 21-16, 21-14. Miraya Fageria rallied back superbly to down Rashi Singhal 9-15, 15-6, 15-10 to claim the U-13 girls singles title. Rashi, however, emerged champion in the U-11 singles by beating Geeta Shree 15-3, 15-4.In the U-19 boys’ doubles, Bhanu Pratap and Jaivardhan staged a fine comeback to pip Akshat Singh Shekhawat and Divyansh 11-21, 21-11, 21-18. Utsava and Kanika trounced Ojaswita Dubey and Pearl 21-14, 21-18 in the women’s doubles final.On the seventh and last day, thrilling matches were played as the local shuttlers stamped their authority in style.The chief guests at the closing ceremony were Pradeep Baheti, trustee of the RD Baheti Charitable Trust, his wife Preeti Baheti, Sanjay Baheti, retired Chief Justices NK Jain and PK Sharma, and Jaipur District Badminton Association president Anil Mehta. All guests presented trophies, prize money, and honored the winners and runners-up of various categories.Pradeep Baheti presented cash prizes to all the winners and runners-up in the main categories. In addition, all winners and runners-up received trophies and T-shirts, while the semi-finalists were honoured with bronze medals and certificates.The JDBA secretary Manoj Dasot said that on this occasion, “Shanti Mehta Scholarship” announced by president Anil Mehta was also given to the players.At the end of the programme, organising secretary Atul Gupta expressed his gratitude to the players, officials, coaches and associates and said that the Jaipur district badminton team will be selected on the basis of performance in this competition.
